Chronic pain and vedanta

The senses.

We are influenced by what we see, hear, smell, taste and touch.
When I hear a beautiful voice singing, my heart opens.
When I smell warm apple pie, I want a piece.
When I smell dirt, I walk away.

My senses seemed to be programmed before I was born and determine the response.
I even don’t have any influence. I can’t order the ear to hear only bass sounds by filtering the high tones. Or the eyes to see everything in my favorite color.

Although I agree that dirt stinks and that I like apple pie, nevertheless, where am I? Do I play a role here?

Sure, to even the dirtiest dirt you get used when you’r in it 24 hours a day but you still will be happy to smell fresh air again. After eating 10 pieces of apple pie you have to throw up to clean yourself and to feel good, to feel normal according your senses.

All together I have to conclude that my senses are to a significant extent in charge of my life.
